The
featured artist this month is one of the most contraversial in the
Dance Hall in recent years. His flows and ability to paint a mental
picture so clearly is why some will argue that Vybz Kartel is the
new emperor of the dance hall scene.
Vybz Kartel, borned Adidja Palmer was determined at a young age
to make his name known to Jamaica and the world at large, despite
being expelled from Calabar high school (I also attended there).
Since his mentor (at the time) Bounty Killer brought him into his
crew as one of his writers he was in the public eye more in 2002,
he has since made himself known and put his mark on the map both
as a song writer and as a sought after performer. Vybz Kartel is
one of the top ranking performers on many billings and parties in
Jamaica today. Despite a falling out with his mentor back in 2006,
Vybz moved on to form his very own crew known as "The Portmore Empire"
in early 2007 which now arguably is the nemisis to Bounty Killer's
"The Alliance".
People will most likely remember Vybz for his on-going feud/clash
with Alliance member Mavado, which resulted in quite a slew of hit
songs. Vybz Kartel gain high rotation and airplay worldwide when
he teamed up with female dance hall artist Spice for Romping Shop
in 2008, which sampled the Ne-Yo track "Miss Independent".
Vybz Kartel has produce so many hits to date that it will prove
futile to really get the perfect tally. For detailed biography and
